On to Cayo Cruz

(originally posted 2/3/2015)

The week in Jardines went quickly, and before we knew it our boat was steaming in to port. The rest of the fishing group was headed back to Havana, but I had a taxi waiting to take me north to Cayo Cruz, the newest in Avalon's Cuba destinations.

My taxi driver was a wonderful guy named Lazaro, who spoke very good english and was eager to share Cuba with me. We had two hours in the car together, and it was really one of the best parts to my trip. I had much more opportunity to really view the way of life in Cuba, which is sobering to say the least. Average wage in the country is $20-$30 per month. People are friendly and happy, even though they are eager for change.

My man Lazaro (Eddie) sharing a good cup of Cuban coffee with me.
